Clayton's Connection
Men at the Cross

In the spring of 2001, I led a busload of teenagers from Kansas City to Branson, Missouri, to experience "Young Christians' Weekend" at Silver Dollar City. Friday night brought an outdoor Christian concert, and Saturday consisted of amusement park rides. But I was not prepared for what would happen at the youth rally late Saturday afternoon. Instead of pointing kids to Christ, I found myself going forward with a renewed faith to receive a hug from the preacher. That was the day I first met Joe White, a former NFL football player turned Christian leader. Joe would impact my life a few years later at a Promise Keeper's rally through his portrayal of the cross. Joe White has a gigantic heart for men, a heart for evangelism and a heart for discipleship through men empowering men. He believes in the philosophy of loving a man to Jesus until he is ready to love another man to Jesus. To help carry out this vision, Joe has started a conference called "Men at the Cross."
"Men at the Cross" is coming to the Berean Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Friday, August 6, from 6-10:45pm. Joe White and others will be motivating us on this evening to become men who have been changed by the cross. The cost is only $29. What a small price to pay for a potentially life-altering event! For each paid adult registration, you may receive one free teen registration for your high school son to attend "Men at the Cross—Crossbow" event held at the same time and location. Mark the date… on your wife's calendar if you have to! Then contact the church office (645-3181) or me (806-0880) to reserve your spot on the van as we join several thousand other "Men at the Cross."

Trust in God
Do not look forward to the changes and chances of this life with fear. Rather, look at them with confidence that as they arise, God, to whom you belong, will in His love enable you to profit by them. He has guided you thus far in life. Hold fast to His dear hand, and He will lead you safely through all trials. Whenever you cannot stand, He will carry you lovingly in His arms.
.The same Eternal Father who takes care of you today will take care of you tomorrow and every day of your life. Either He will shield you from suffering or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace then and put aside... all dreads and anxious imaginations.
---Francis de Sales (1567-1622)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5,6)
The Lord is a refuge..., a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You. (Psalm 9:9,10)
Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust.... (Psalm 40:4a)
When I am afraid, I will trust in You. (Psalm 56:3)
Trust in the Lord forever, for in God the Lord we have an everlating Rock. (Isaiah 26:4)
