Clayton's Connection
The Chase
Hello everyone in Wymore and beyond! My current residence is Camp Nebowa, located on beautiful Blue Lake outside of Onawa, Iowa. Unfortunately, Camp Nebowa is also the current residence of a large flock of geese that like to roam the region and leave us little presents. Oh well, that is the joy of camp! As is the news that two of our fifth-grade students want to be baptized... by their 14-year-old family group leader who shared his faith with them Monday morning. Monday's theme was "The Chase." Our classes and lessons were built around the idea of pursuing Christ and chasing after him. Students were also reminded that someone is chasing us, the old devil Satan, who pursues us like a lion looking for someone to gobble up. But our Lord Jesus Christ is bigger, stronger, and faster than Satan. He pursues us out of His great love for us and His willingness to share the love of God the Father with the world. God pursues us with great passion, and it's time for us to pursue Him back with that same intensity. I love what Sam Kohler shared during communion time on Sunday. Our relationship with God is designed to be personal and passionate. We wrestled with this idea at our last elders' meeting, and decided that really we as leaders should be modeling this kind of attitude and perspective. We want our relationship with God to be personal, passionate, and purposeful. That's also a good model for our relationships with others in our ongregation and community. God doesn't want us only to chase Him, but to chase others with His love. To pursue relationships with people around us that lead them closer to Christ. To love others as we have been loved. And to share that love in a way that they can feel and understand. May we all join "The Chase."

An Open Letter to the Faithful
It matters not what the weather is, nor how busy you are, nor how much company is at your house, nor any other attractions or distractions this world may offer, none of this will cause you to treat lightly your faithfulness to the Lord and worship services. Whatever happens, we know that you will not forsake Him. You will make whatever sacrifice is necessary. You have no more time than other people do, but somehow you manage to find time to fully serve the Lord.
Whenever a good program is put before the church, no one wonders what your response will be or if you can be counted on to see it through. When you accept an assignment, it is a foregone conclusion that you will complete it.
We appreciate you even more because you demand no special attention or praise for your service, and you do not consider that being regular and faithful to God is a grievous burden or a great feat of valor. You are a good example to younger members and an inspiration to all of us. You make the work of the leaders and the preacher much lighter.
Thank you for being the kind of Christian you are. A crown of righteousness will be yours at the last great day! I know I will be seeing you and yours in the services next Lord's Day. Until then, may God richly bless you.
